Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler Review

Several months ago, I was in desperate need of a new eyelash curler after my previous ones had tore out some of my eyelashes - not a pretty site. After that, I threw them out right away so I'd never be tempted to try and use them again, even if they were the only ones I had. So there I was, eyelash curler-less for a couple months. (I know, first world problems.) But finally, my shipment from Shu Uemura arrived. And just in time too because they just had their friends and family sale! So I was pretty excited to try out the internet-acclaimed "best eyelash curler."

According the website:
The emblematic, best-selling and award-winning shu uemura eyelash curler featuring enhanced design and upgraded features for ultimate precision that delivers the perfect curl. Upgraded silicone pad in a new "mushroom" shape provides a protective, stay-put edge for improved safety and optimum curl. Upgraded patented hinge with precise engineering applies perfect amount of pressure on eyelashes. Curved angle suits all eye shapes. Calculated shape and size of frame length and ergonomic handles ensure stability and control.

At first glance it appears to be no different from an ordinary eyelash curler. Closer inspection shows otherwise.

PROS:
- Wider eyelash angle means it can get my entire eyelash without poking me.
- Doesn't poke or pinch my eye
- Doesn't pull out my eyelashes. YAY!

CONS
- No springs. It felt strange at first, but then I got used to it. Usually the springs help keep easy precision and control.
- Cannot purchase the silicone pads separately. While it does come with an extra, it's recommended that they be replaced every 6 months - which means you may be needing a new one next year.
- Hard to find in the US. Basically, it's only available on their website - which is kind of annoying since I absolutely hate paying shipping.

Overall:
Overall, I have noticed that people always complement my mascara whenever I wear this. And it doesn't seem to matter what kind of mascara either. So far I'm loving it. I can definitely see why people have been raving about this. Is it the best out there? For someone that's only tried a drugstore brand and then jumping to this one, I'm not the best judge for that. All I know is that, it worked for my pin straight Asian eyelashes.

Do you have this eyelash curler?

  1. I really want to try these, but I don't know if I can justify spending so much on something that doesn't look that different from all the cheaper versions =( I might have to go ahead and put it on a birthday list or something. If I'm not paying for it, that makes it OK!

Also, I've nominated you for a Liebster Blog Award, which I'd love for you to check out =) It was really fun to do actually, and I see you've already been nominated. Double the fun! xx

  6. I have this eyelash curler and I have repurchased this twice already. I think it fits my eye shape very well and it curls my stick straight lashes very nicely.

  7. Nice review, I actually don't use an eyelash curler as mine are naturally curly. Ha, I don't like that they are though.

  11. Haha, I know what you mean. Especially now since it's pretty much the only eyelash curler I have that won't pull out my eyelashes.
