Yunnan Noir by Adagio Teas

Yunnon Noir by Adagio Teas

Hi Guys!
Yunnon Noir by Adagio Teas
I feel like I haven't done a tea review for quite some. That's because lately I've only been drinking one kind of tea. And that's this tea. After tasting it for the first time at the BF's house, I just knew that I had to have it. One week later and I have my own 4oz bag at my place. I decided to save you guys my last cup of this tea and do a review. Let me tell you why I'm so addicted to this tea.

According to Adagio's Website:
Black tea from the Yunnan province of China, the birthplace of tea itself. Much of the tea in this southern province is a large leaf variety. Mountains veiled in mist, with clean water and rich soil form ideal growing conditions and contribute to the unique flavor. Our Yunnan Noir is a hand-rolled tea, with leaves tightly curled into a 'black snail' shape. The aroma is sweet with hints of honey and spice. Savory and winey on the palate, with smooth, deep fruity astringency, tremendous depth of flavor, cinnamon bark and nutmeg in the finish. Terrifically textured cup of tea.

Taste: (5/5)
I want you to imagine regular black tea. Now I want you to imagine black tea all jacked up with bold aromas and an almost chocolatey, nutty, almond-y, creamy feel to it. Honestly, I was never into black teas because I believed that all of them tasted quite similar to lipton's black tea. Boy was I wrong! This tea in particular - Yunnan, I have tried from other brands and it is pretty good. I usually enjoy this tea iced because I feel like all the flavors just blossom when it's iced. I brew it hot first though, and then add ice.

Pricing & Availability (4/5):
Where I'm from (the north east coast of the US), I pretty much cannot get this anywhere except online.  It's pretty annoying to have to order it online, but I guess that's what you have to do for quality loose tea. It's available here and comes in different amounts.
Sampler = 10 cups = $5.00
4oz = about 50 cups/ 28 cents per cup = $14.00
16oz = about 200 cups/17 cents per cup = $34.00
15 Teabags = $14.00
I've been drinking two full cups of this per day for the last month and I'm pretty much finished (only two cups left).

Steepster Rating: 81/100 -> (4.01/5)

Overall (6/5)
While this is much more expensive than your average tea, it's quality and great taste really makes up for it. This is officially my favorite black tea of it's kind. If you ever get a chance to try Yunnan tea, try it in it's darkest form.

  4. Ooh what a lovely review! I really want to try it now!

    You can't beat a good cup of PG Tips in my opinion. Apart from that, I love Twining's tea, particularly the peppermint tea. Like heaven in a cup.
